On June 20th 2025, Dr Charlene Rose (Centre-UB Fellow) and Robert Lang, Secondary Geography Teacher and Chartered Geographer, delivered the Geographical Association GCSE and A Level Geography Teacher CPD Course, in collaboration with Adrian Alexander, owner of the West Midlands Jerk Centre at Hockley Social Club.
The CPD session was designed to be highly interactive, promoting active engagement. The session started on a discussion of the complex geographies of Caribbean food, followed by a discuss of how non-exam assessments, a requirement for A Level Geography which involves fieldwork, could be made more exciting and appealing to students.
Participants then got to have a Caribbean meal from West Midlands Jerk Centre and hear the owner, Adrian Alexander, talk about his backstory which included how he started the business and his experience of catering to Birmingham.
