The National Police Chiefs’ Council, in partnership with UK Research and Innovation, have funded £4.5 million to launch nine Policing Academic Centres of Excellence (P-ACEs). These will start in October 2025. Each P-ACE provides an accessible source of leading academic experts aligned with policing’s Areas of Research Interest and evidence needs. The P-ACEs will support policing with adopting new technologies, developing new tools and techniques, improving training and skills, and increasing public safety. Therefore, there is plenty of scope for behavioural researchers to make an important contribution.
Our Centre-UB director, Professor Jess Woodhams, is the Knowledge Mobilisation and Impact Lead for The Policing Academic Centre of Excellence – Leicester, Aston and Birmingham – University of Birmingham (P-ACE LAB). Jess explained, “I’m delighted that the Centre team built in resource for a network and development opportunities for early career policing researchers. I hope this will also bring opportunities for Centre-UB students and fellows to collaborate with P-ACE LAB early career researchers”.
