Centre-UB is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, part of UKRI. The University of Birmingham received a funding award of £7.1 million in October 2023 to create a national centre for doctoral training plus in behavioural research as part of UKRI’s overall investment in building a national capability in behavioural research. You can see their press release here: ESRC to radically expand UK behavioural research capacity – UKRI.
The ESRC are fully-funding eight PhD studentships per year with the University of Birmingham providing a further seven studentships. In addition, each year, at least two PhD studentships are funded by non-academic partners. These can be funded by a single organisation or a consortium of organisations.
Eight postdoctoral fellowships per year are also fully funded by the ESRC, which is part of the “plus” element of the CDT. Our funding from the ESRC is also used to support a programme of events for partners, our students and fellows, and for the public.
