On Wednesday 27th August 2025, I held a panel and reception at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) conference.
The panel consisted of an amazing group of people, West Midlands Jerk Centre owner, Adrian Alexander; PhD Researcher, Olivia Petie, and secondary school teacher and chartered geographer, Robert Lang. Associate Professor, Dr Kamran Khan, was chair.
Creative methods in food geographies was the discussion, spanning from the use of photography and linguistics in the field, cooking with migrants to hear their experiences, and how food can be used to teach geography in secondary school. The owner of West Midlands Jerk Centre, Adrian, discussed providing Caribbean food to such a diverse city as Birmingham. Additionally, the teacher toolkit and the CPD session that I created with the Geographical Association was discussed.
The reception was held alongside Andréa-Claire Edwards, Director of Global Relations and Research, International Relations. It was truly amazing seeing so many people network and discuss the topic of food. As always the food was by Amazing Grace and it was fabulous.
