Growing evidence suggests that physical activity (PA) can be a good coping mechanism to reduce the impact of stress on wellbeing. However, little is known about how different types of PA (e.g., running, walking) and contexts (e.g., indoor/outdoor, individual/group) influence these associations.
This project will focus on content moderators, who often work with distressing content, such as hate speech, graphic violence, child and sexual abuse. This exposure can negatively impact their emotions, mental health, and behaviour. The overarching aim of this project is to develop, together with our partner organization Moonshot CVE, a toolkit that can support stress management through PA for this particular population. To achieve this, we will conduct a series of studies to 1) identify factors that could influence the relationship between PA, coping strategies, and wellbeing in content moderators, 2) develop guidance on PA to support coping strategies and wellbeing in content moderators. Throughout the PhD project a range of methodological approaches will be used, including a systematic literature review, diary-based or ecological momentary assessments, qualitative assessments, co-development of interventions, and assessment of the effectiveness of the developed intervention.
