My Centre-UB Early Career Researcher Fellowship is a project which is conducted in collaboration with the Office for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire. It aims to address a critical gap in our understanding of how public services, specifically policing and healthcare, can be improved to effectively support disabled survivors of domestic abuse, who have a physical and/or sensory disability, through the use of co-production. It will specifically employ an experience-based co-design (EBCD) approach. This is an evidence-based approach to service development. It uses people’s experiences as the evidence for deciding what to change, and how to change it. It involves close and equal collaboration between all the groups of people who may have a stake in the system or process which is to be improved. In this project this will be crucial for developing more responsive, user-centred services that meet the complex needs of this vulnerable population and improve their help-seeking experiences and outcomes. The project will include interviews with the relevant stakeholder groups, a workshop, and theatre to help generate discussion.
