Jim McManus is National Director of Health and Wellbeing for Wales and formerly President of the Association of Directors of Public Health UK during which time he participated in the Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies (SAGE).
He is a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the British Psychological Society and of the Faculty of Public Health. He is Deputy Chair of the UK prevention Research Partnership Scientific Advisory Board. Jim was a co-founder of the Behavioural Science and Public Health Network, a charity and a learned society member of the Academy of Social Sciences. He was also a co-author of the 2018 England national strategy on using behavioural science in public health and has co-authored guidance for local authorities on using behavioural sciences. He has a special interest in leadership psychology. Jim is a visiting professor at the Universities of Hertfordshire and Bangor. He was a Health Foundation Generation Q Fellow. Jim is also Chair of Prison Advice and Care Trust a national Catholic charity; a Trustee of St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney. He was awarded a D.Sc Honoris Causa in 2022 and made a Fellow of the International Society of Science and Religion in 2022.
