Former government Policy Advisor (2003-2016), Rachael Singleton worked as Northern Ireland (NI) government’s Senior Behavioural Scientist (2016-2024) before transitioning into academia. Her expertise in programme management and public behaviour change to support policy delivery includes national COVID-19 transmission prevention, NI-wide debt recoupment and national business innovation. She is especially invested in co-designed interventions to support societal and environmental outcomes, and in particular where these platform marginalised voices. This is reflected in her role on EPIC Futures NI’s Local Policy and Innovation Partnership, where she brings behavioural science to delivering evidence-based solutions for fair and inclusive employment across NI. Rachael’s research on public pro-environmental behaviour change has been presented, on invitation, to government Ministers in Stormont (seat of NI government) and Ministers in the Republic of Ireland. Her design-led research as co-investigator on Future Island-Island works to deliver a nationwide green transition that is co-designed and delivered by NI citizens. Rachael identifies behavioural science as being key to policy design and delivery that reflects citizen needs.
