My PhD research asked how Caribbean restaurants and takeaways advertise to the superdiverse Ladywood constituency using the linguistic method of Multimodal Discourse Analysis. My current research conducted as part of my fellowship is now following on from this and looks at the behaviours behind advertising to a superdiverse community.
My fellowship is in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society and Geographical Association. Therefore, I am working with both organisations to create two teacher toolkits, a teacher CPD session and a podcast episode. I am also working with the charity Kidney Care in relation to their African and Caribbean magazine and magazine launch.
Whilst completing these tasks, I am engaged in training as a behavioural science researcher. This includes monthly sessions with the Centre-UB team which have covered research communication and getting involved in policy alongside being a visiting researcher at the behavioural science departments at Umeå University and the University of the West Indies.
